FAQ

Q. Can I be involved with NRRG and/or offer feedback concerning the Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice in Community Services and Health Care Settings to the CSHISC (skills council)?

A. NRRG represents a broad range of member associations and branches of Reiki (see NRRG Representation page ). Currently NRRG has decided that any expansion of the NRRG beyond its present size would be counterproductive to our ability to come to consensus on important issues. In view of the tight timeframe within which we must respond to the Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CS&HISC) we must ensure that our process is focussed and efficient.

As a member of the Reiki community, any specific feedback you would like to provide to us on the overall structure of the qualification and / or on any of the Reiki specific units in the current draft would be very welcome, and will be taken into account in developing the NRRG's recommendations to the CS&HISC (see Contact NRRG page).

A CD ROM of the current draft can be obtained from the CS&HISC by emailing sarahfuller@cshisc.com.au.

In order to be considered for inclusion in the NRRG?s recommendations, feedback would need to reach NRRG no later than 7th April 2006. Alternatively, you may wish to send your feedback directly to the CS&HISC.

While all feedback will be seriously considered, it may not be possible to incorporate all responses into the NRRG submission to the CS&HISC.

Q. Can I receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) with the proposed Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice in Community Services and Healthcare Settings?

A. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), has been around for a long time, and allows a person's existing skills and knowledge to be evaluated against competencies. This evaluation, conducted by a qualified assessor, identifies where a person already has the skills and experience to competently perform, and does not need additional training.

Many Reiki practitioners may find that in order to attain the proposed Cert IV, they only need to study a small number of units, as they may already have much of what is required to complete the qualification.

An example might be that someone who is already qualified with a Cert IV in Massage, does not need to do any further study on any of the common units in the Health Training Package, as these have been previously completed. The only extra study might be in the Reiki Specialisation units.

Even under those circumstances, the practitioner could compile a Portfolio of Evidence (supervisor/peer reports, log book evidencing Reiki treatments delivered, client feedback forms etc), and on presentation to the RTO offering the units, be informed that many of the competencies are already met, and that only 1 or 2 Specialisation units need to be done in order to receive the Reiki Treatment Practice qualification.

Some very experienced practitioners may find themselves in the position where an RPL process determines they need do no further study at all, and already meet all competency requirements for the entire qualification. Usually project/research work, in addition to the Portfolio of Evidence will be required.

What RPL means for those people already practising Reiki professionally, is that the time and cost involved in obtaining the qualification can be significantly reduced.
